Dr. Alastair Buchanan

Managing Director
Overview

Alastair founded Cadscan in 2011 and holds a Ph.D in Image Processing. He joined the R&D department of Lucas Varity in 1997 to work on autonomous vehicles, developing imaging and data fusion systems and participating in numerous collaborative research projects. From there he moved into business development, leading the exploitation of a portfolio of automotive and aerospace technologies. This technical and commercial experience provides the foundation for the day to day operation of the company.

Interests

When not chasing his small son Charlie around the house Alastair follows Liverpool FC and tries to get to a few games each year to cheer them on. He dabbles with guitars and synthesizers, loves to travel and meet new people.

Steve Rowlands

Finance Manager
Overview

Steve holds a Mathematics degree from the University of Sheffield. He has extensive experience in accountancy, audit tax and a diverse range of financial services. He joined the Cadscan team as a finance manager in 2013 and actively splits his time between our organisation and IMF matrix.

Interests

Most of Steve’s time is taken up by his 3 daughters. He also supports and attends both Liverpool and Southport football teams, and has an unhealthy obsession with Panini football stickers.

Dr. Jonathan Roberts

Software Engineering Manager
Overview

Jonathan has been with the company since 2014 and is responsible for ensuring that all software produced by Cadscan is delivered on time and to a high level of quality, meeting all required standards. He has worked on many projects in a variety of fields including medical devices, video games, 3D printing, 3D scanning, embedded systems and smartphone development. His background is in Computer Science and Mathematics and he holds a PhD in Machine Learning from the University of Manchester.

Interests

In his free time, Jonathan enjoys long walks with his two mischievous dogs.

Josh Cowburn

Product Design Manager
Overview

Josh holds a B.A. in Product Design from Nottingham Trent University. This included a sponsored placement at The Thorn Academy of Light with the output was presented at the New Designers National Exhibition in 2013. He joined Cadscan the same year and now runs the product design team with responsibility for mechanical and electronic design, ISO quality systems and manufacturing.

Interests

Josh enjoys camping and chasing his dog Nelson around muddy fields. When not busy with DIY he spends his time supporting Everton FC.

Tracy Onsongo

Marketing Coordinator
Overview

Tracy Onsongo is responsible for Cadscan’s marketing activities which includes the planning and development of exploitation plans, business models, content etc. Her drive and commercial focus is complemented by a strong analytical background and experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods.

Interests

Outside work, Tracy enjoys travelling, anything Marvel-related and trying new restaurants. Her favourite topic: Holiday destinations.

Sam Hignett

Software Engineer
Overview

Sam primarily works with C++ and C# programming languages to develop code across Cadscan’s diverse portfolio. His position entails working with a diverse range of cutting-edge technology and exploring the development of artificial intelligence behaviour patterns.

Interests

Sam plays an unhealthy amount of video games, under the excuse he “Exercises nearly every day, so it’s fine”. He also enjoys practicing on his guitar and reading. His favourite book of late is “Snow Cash”.

Tom Cannon

Software Engineer
Overview

Tom works as part of a team to create, develop and maintain complex codes. His expertise and passion in software development is heavily driven by his problem solving skills and thirst for continuous development. Tom’s role is centred on solving existing software issues and implementing new exciting software features. His in-field expertise is strengthened by his problem solving skills and extensive knowledge of multiple software languages.

Interests

Music is a huge part of Tom’s life, he listens to a wide variety of all music genres from classical to metal while also playing the piano himself. He also enjoys travelling to new countries, his favourite destination being Canada.

Dan Blackburn

Software Engineer
Overview

Daniel Blackburn has a Masters in Computing with honours in Games Development, complemented by his expertise in C++, C#, Python, Javascript, and PHP. Dan’s role also extends to the development of core systems for majority of the products.

Interests

Dan spends his alone time working on personal development projects, whilst also enjoying the luxury playing extensive amounts of video games.

Daniel Edwards

Mechanical Engineer
Overview

Daniel Edwards holds a first class master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Birmingham. A significant proportion of his time is spent on new product development, design and testing which is complemented by his proficiency in computer aided design and manufacturing.

Interests

Daniel is an avid supporter of Liverpool football club and regularly attends home and away matches. He also enjoys watching formula one races in his spare time.

Matthew Cooil

3D Printer Technician
Overview

Matthew Cooil is responsible for maintaining and operating Cadscan’s 3d printer farm, including quality control of our 3D printed products. He is focused and is driven by high standards coming from a background in musical instrument manufacture.

Interests

Outside of work in his spare time Matthew enjoys spending time in the workshop building musical instruments, toys and furniture. Visiting castles with his family and board game nights with friends. Also beer.

Fulons Solbakken

Software Engineer
Overview

Fulons has a degree in Computer Science and has a particular interest in graphics rendering, procedural modelling and linear algebra with a passion for solving geometrical problems. He programs in a variety of languages including C/C++, Java and Swift.

Interests

When not playing video games Fulons plays Volleyball, as well as working on his own electronics and software projects.
