Cadscan unveils CBT app to support positive mental health.

Cadscan has been awarded a contract as part of the SBRI Healthcare and ASHN initiative to develop interventions that support positive mental health. Under the contract, Cadscan will develop Phobot, a voice-operated conversational agent designed to deliver purpose-built cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) programmes to treat anxiety in adolescents.

Mental health crisis

An estimated 1 in 10 children aged 5-16 are likely to suffer from a diagnosable mental health disorder. Amongst the most common is anxiety, which affects 2.2% of 5-10 year olds, and 4.4% of 11-16 year olds.
NICE recommends cognitive behavioural therapy as a treatment option for anxiety in children and adolescents. However, the provision of therapy is strained by excessive demand, limited accessibility, lengthy waiting times and capital shortages. These issues are widespread and result in 150 referrals a day being turned away across the children and mental health services.

Phobot addresses these challenges by delivering a low-cost, natural and low-friction CBT interface for children with anxiety. The system will deliver an easy-to-use, engaging and responsive application that offers supportive treatment accessible at the user’s convenience.
